Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 20 – Under the initiative of Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), the UYFC will organise the “Celebrate Cambodia” New Year’s Eve event on 31 December 2024 in the park in front of the Royal Palace.

Sok Sabayna, a member of the UYFC Central Committee Standing Committee and part of the event’s organizing committee, announced the event during a press conference on 19 December 2024.

He stated that the “Celebrate Cambodia” event is a celebration of Khmer national identity and pride, as well as a tribute to the achievements of the Cambodian people who have worked tirelessly in the past.

This major celebration, the first of its kind in Cambodia on the occasion of the New Year, will begin at 3pm on 31 December 2024 and conclude at 6am on 1 January 2025.

According to Sok Sabayna, the event will showcase decorations, designs, and creative ideas inspired by both ancient and contemporary art, stretching from the gardens along the banks of the Chaktomuk River to the gardens in front of Chanchhaya Temple at the Royal Palace.

The decorations will feature popular games from the 1990s, such as the squid jumping game, which represents the joyous spirit of Cambodian youth during challenging economic and political times.

A highlight of the event is the Cambodian Pride Parade, which will include approximately 3,000 participants. The parade will start at the corner of Angkor Wat, 144th Street, and Sisowath Street, and will end in the garden in front of the Royal Palace.

The parade will feature cultural performances, martial arts or sports displays, and participants in traditional costumes with intricate body decorations. There will also be creative parade floats, balloons, and decorations illuminated with colorful lights and technology, showcasing artistic talent and collaboration among institutions and groups.

A symbolic centerpiece of the event is the “Cambodian Flag Parade,” which aims to unite individuals, groups, and communities under the national flag of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This activity symbolises solidarity and national unity, fostering a collective celebration of the nation’s achievements.

Additionally, the event will feature food displays from all 25 provinces and municipalities, offering visitors an opportunity to enjoy the rich culinary diversity of Cambodia.
