Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 20 – President-elect Donald Trump aims to boost US oil production to cut energy costs. Data shows Republican administrations have historically favoured the oil and gas industry.
In Trump’s first year, oil and gas leases on public land rose by 93% compared to Obama’s final year. Leases dropped during the Biden administration, which paused new federal leases in 2021 to curb emissions.
After Trump’s 2024 win, Biden limited drilling further. The Bureau of Land Management restricted an Arctic National Wildlife Refuge lease sale to 400,000 acres. Environmentalists oppose drilling there, but Trump plans to pursue it.
