Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 21 – To address doubts regarding the location of the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet clarified that RUPP will not be relocated but will expand with additional campuses.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Nov. 21) during a graduation of more than 8,000 students of the Royal University of Phnom Penh at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre.

"I confirm that there is no relocation of the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Previously, there were rumours about the relocation of the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), but in reality, ITC only expanded with an additional branch. Similarly, there is no policy to relocate public universities. Instead, we focus on campus expansion. If it continues to grow, I believe RUPP will go beyond three campuses—there may be four or five in the future. I strongly support this expansion," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei further highlighted that the expansion of RUPP reflects the university’s increasing credibility and sustainability, noting that its performance has earned the trust of more students seeking enrolment.

The Royal University of Phnom Penh is a public institution contributing to the development of human resources for Cambodia’s socioeconomic growth, in line with the policies of the Royal Government. Currently, RUPP operates three campuses. From 1980 to 2022, the university trained over 60,000 graduates, including more than 20,000 women. For the 2023-2024 academic year, nearly 30,000 students are enrolled at the university.
