Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 18 – The Internationale démocrate centriste-Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) Youth Organisation and the Asian Vision Institute (AVI) have jointly organised a Special Forum to enhance the role of youth in promoting peace and co-existence.

Themed “Role of Youth in Peace, Dialogue, Co-existence and Addressing Their Challenges,” the event was opened under the presidency of Ouch Borith, Member of the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Vice President of the Senate of Cambodia.

André Pastrana Arango, President of IDC-CDI; Nemeth Zsolt, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Hungary; Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Vice Chairman and Special Rapporteur of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Standing Committee; Sok Soken, CPP Representative in the Youth of IDC-CDI and Minister of Inspection of Cambodia; and Prak Sophoan, Governor of Siem Reap province, were also present on the occasion.

In his opening remarks, Ouch Borith emphasised the necessity of promoting intercultural understanding and tolerance, as well as embracing diversity with mutual respect in maintaining unity for peaceful coexistence and for peace and stability maintenance.

Key speakers who are youth representatives from Cambodia, Spain, Angola, Colombia, and so on have been invited to share their insights on the above-said topic. This session will be chaired by Sok Soken.

Besides the Special Forum, the participants will discuss “Peace Charter: For People and The Planet” under the chairmanship of Nemeth Zsolt, with the participation of about ten guest speakers.

Peace Charter is a non-binding legal instrument designed to universally strengthen international solidarity and partnership for peace, harmony, dignity and prosperity, said Siem Reap Provincial Governor Prak Sophoan in his remarks at the opening ceremony, adding that is based on the fundamental principles of (1) unity in diversity, good neighbourliness, non-aggression and non-interference, (2) peaceful resolution of conflicts, and (3) the culture of peace.

The Special Forum and the Discussion are part of the IDC-CDI Executive Committee Meeting which will gather 87 delegates representing 26 political parties from 24 countries all over the world, including many senior political figures, in Siem Reap province this afternoon.

According to a CPP’s press release, the Executive Committee Meeting will be honoured with a keynote address by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Vice-president of CPP and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, as well as other important deliberations by IDC-CDI leaders and leading figures of political parties and governments.

Moreover, the Executive Committee Meeting will adopt the Siem Reap Declaration as well as Resolutions proposed by member parties and endorse the inclusion of four new members.

The IDC-CDI is an international political party grouping with 109 political party members from 83 countries of Europe, Latin America, North America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. The CPP became a full member of the IDC-CDI in April 2016 and has been elected as Vice-president of the IDC-CDI in charge of the Asia-Pacific region since July 2018 for three consecutive terms.
