Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 28 – The National Career and Productivity Fair, held from 26 to 27 October at the Diamond Island Exhibition Hall, received considerable attention for the "Building Capacity and Establishing an Enabling Environment in ICT Majors of TVET in Cambodia" project. This initiative is supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and implemented by the Korea Productivity Center (KPC) and Sangmyung University (SMU) for project management consultancy. The project supported 5 TVET institutions in Phnom Penh—NPIC, NTTI, NIB, PPI, and ITI—information, conducting ICT prototype demonstration and surveying demand for ICT personnel.
The ICT desk, backed by PMC at 5 TVET institutions attracted approximately 1,000 visitors, providing valuable information about the institutions' ICT curriculum and their excellence. Each booth engaged participants with various activities such ICT project prototypes, aiming to ignite interest and enhance understanding of the project.
Furthermore, visits were made to various companies and organizations to assess the future demand for ICT technicians and identify specific fields in which skilled workers are needed. This included exploring internship opportunities for ICT technicians being trained through the project and providing in-service training to enhance the project's effectiveness.
Since 2011, the National Employment Agency (NEA) has organized 12 career fairs, recognized as the largest annual event in the labor market. Nearly 30,000 participants have sought job opportunities through this event each year, and this year featured approximately 150 companies, enterprises, ministries, institutions and educational organizations, with over 180 booths showcasing a wide range of job opportunities, totaling up to 30,000 positions. The Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Heng Sour, along with representatives from KOICA and other development partners and NGOs, attended the event and conducted workshops on enhancing productivity, further enriching the occasion.
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is supporting the "Building Capacity and Establishing an Enabling Environment in ICT Majors of TVET in Cambodia" project, which spans from 2023 to 2027. The project focuses on improving the quality of TVET education through enhancement of ICT curriculum, capacity building of ICT faculty, establishment of ICT enabling environment and strengthening of employment support program. Beyond the National Career and Productivity Fair, the project will actively participate in various national events to showcase its milestones and achievements, empowering students in TVET institutions.
