Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 25 – BRICS countries, particularly China, the UAE, and Iran, face higher exposure to trade disruptions in the Taiwan Strait, with over 24% of exports from the latter two passing through.
China and Japan depend heavily on the strait for imports, with a third of their imports using this route. Japan's energy security is especially tied to this path, with 95% of its crude oil coming from the Middle East and passing through the strait. While only 15% of China's exports use the strait, their value exceeds $551 billion.
The strait also supports China's domestic trade, with over half of voyages serving its eastern ports. G7 countries, except Japan, have minimal reliance on this route. The strait has been a site of multiple military confrontations since the 1950s.
