Mondulkiri (FN), Oct. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet asked the opposition group living abroad why they did not call for Cambodia’s withdrawal from CLV-DTA while they were the member of parliament.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Oct. 24) during the inauguration of O’ Te Dam in Mondulkiri province.
Although the Royal Government of Cambodia has decided to withdraw from the CLV-DTA cooperation, some ill-intended individuals still protest and criticize the CLV-DTA issue. Some accused the Royal Government of lying to the public.
Samdech Thipadei reiterated that from now on, Cambodia will no longer participate in such cooperation or hold meetings with stakeholders. CLV-DTA cooperation is not the only path to the development of the Northeast region, and the decision to withdraw was made to address the concerns and suspicions of the public, preventing the opposition from using this issue to mislead Cambodians living abroad.
"What is amusing is that the leaders who now incite protests—those from the former Sam Rainsy Party and the former CNRP—were in parliament when Cambodia was part of the CLV. Why didn’t they question it then? There were times when they even sent party members to attend meetings, yet they remained silent. Only now are they saying it was wrong," the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also encouraged young Cambodians living abroad, who may have been misled, to ask their opposition leaders about this inconsistency and question what hidden agenda has only now been revealed.
