Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 19 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged citizens to embrace a positive outlook on culture and to work together to strengthen, preserve, and promote Cambodian cultural heritage.
The premier spoke on Saturday (Oct. 19) during his meeting with 4,742 Cambodian Red Cross Youth volunteers at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
“Why is it important to maintain a positive attitude? Mindset is a key factor in how we approach the same task, but with different outcomes. For example, in the past, people worried about cultural issues, fearing they were being taken advantage of,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei continued, “So how should we respond? There are two ways: Responding negatively means doing nothing but complaining, blaming others for trying to take from us, and criticizing ourselves for not being able to help. But if we love our culture and want to promote it, focusing only on negativity won’t get us far. If we think positively, we can recognize the good in what others are doing. For instance, with the New Year, we can make improvements based on what we see. Instead of worrying about what others intend, let’s work together to make our culture stronger. That is positive thinking.”
The premier added that if we wish to compete with others, we should not waste time attacking or criticizing them, but instead focus on improving ourselves. This positive attitude will drive us to take constructive actions.
Regarding cultural matters, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the public not to focus on the idea of others stealing from us but rather to promote our own films and cultural expressions more actively.
Prime Minister Hun Manet concluded by saying that, as the leader of the country, he is not concerned with attacks or criticism, but is focused on the work that benefits the nation and its people.
