Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 19 – The newly-appointed Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Derek Yip pledged to deepen and broaden cooperation between Australia and Cambodia.

The ambassador paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on 18 October 2024 at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, the ambassador commended Cambodia's rapid progress across various sectors. He pledged to (1) continuing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation, (2) supporting Cambodia's transition as it prepares to graduate from the Group of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in 2029, and (3) contributing to the launch of the Pentagon-Phase I strategy, which aims to promote Cambodia's resilient and sustainable economic development.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei congratulated Derek Yip on his appointment as Australian Ambassador to Cambodia and expressed deep gratitude for Australia’s longstanding support in fostering peace and socio-economic growth in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei underlined the importance of dialogue and information-sharing mechanisms on topics of mutual interest to both countries.

Both sides praised the strong and enduring relations and cooperation between the two nations, discussing ways to further strengthen and expand cooperation in several key areas, including trade, economy, investment, clean energy, health, education, defence, security, and training.
