Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet shared that during a recent ASEAN Summit in Laos, he met with other world leaders to promote the kingdom’s rice exports, speaking on Monday (Oct. 14) during the 20th anniversary celebration of Cambodia’s accession to WTO at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.

"At the ASEAN meeting, we are negotiating to export rice to the Philippines and other countries to open new markets. Negotiation is not easy; it's more than just reaching an agreement—it requires consistent follow-up to ensure implementation,” Samdech Thipadei underlined.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet explained that the head of state handles the political arena, the ministry handles negotiations, and the farmers are the actual producers. He urged farmers to enhance their capabilities to meet market demands, rather than relying on favours.

According to the Cambodian Rice Federation, Cambodia exported 412,023 tons of rice in the first eight months of 2024, generating $305 million across 65 markets.
