Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 14 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated Cambodia will not join any bloc or mechanism formed to compete or oppose others, as the country prioritizes peace and stability. Cambodia is committed to avoiding any involvement in initiatives that could undermine peace, either domestically or regionally.
The premier spoke on Monday (Oct. 14) during the 20th anniversary celebration of Cambodia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated, "Let it be clear that Cambodia will not join any mechanism with a political agenda designed to compete with or oppose any country or bloc. This is Cambodia's policy. We join mechanisms with the common goal of maintaining harmony, peace, and prosperity in the region, promoting joint regional development—particularly economic cooperation—and safeguarding peace. Cambodia needs internal peace, but regional peace is equally important, as it directly affects us. For example, the conflict in Ukraine has caused prices to rise, and now with the fighting in the Middle East, the transit of goods through the Red Sea is delayed, further increasing commodity prices."
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined the potential economic impact of conflicts in the region, which could severely affect the livelihoods of the people. For Cambodia, as a member of the United Nations and ASEAN, the priority is to join mechanisms that promote peace, without opposing any country or bloc or engaging in competition. Instead, Cambodia supports integration that fosters cooperation, particularly in advancing joint economic development, peacekeeping, and stability.
Samdech Thipadei continued that Cambodia will continue to actively participate in any mechanism aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region and combating transnational crime.
