Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 11 – The Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ) and the Thai Journalists Association (TJA) issued a joint statement addressing the growing controversy between Miss Grand International Public Company Limited, headquartered in Thailand, and Miss Grand Cambodia. The controversy, which has gained widespread attention in both countries, involves issues related to international beauty pageants.

According to the joint statement obtained by Fresh News on Friday (Oct 10), the CCJ and TJA expressed concern over ongoing media coverage, warning that it could exacerbate tensions between the two parties.

"In an effort to find a resolution, the leadership of the CCJ and TJA held an emergency online meeting on 10 October 2024 to discuss the incidents and offer the following recommendations:

First, urging the two private companies to resolve their disputes swiftly to prevent further escalation.

Second, calling on media outlets in both countries to act responsibly and refrain from exploiting the conflict between these companies for their own or their media's benefit.

Third, requesting social media users in both countries to carefully consider the potential consequences before sharing information related to this controversy."

The statement concluded with both the CCJ and TJA expressing hope that the controversy between the two companies would be resolved quickly to avoid unforeseen outcomes that could negatively impact the long-term relationship between the people of Cambodia and Thailand.
