Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on all relevant authorities to remain vigilant and ready to monitor and swiftly respond to any flood emergencies.

The premier made these remarks during a weekly cabinet meeting held on Friday (Sep. 27) at the Peace Palace.

Samdech Thipadei also urged key stakeholders, including the General Command of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the General Commissariat of the National Police, to prepare necessary personnel, equipment, and resources for timely intervention when required. He underlined that the National Committee for Disaster Management should work closely with provincial and municipal governors to identify safe havens and take appropriate measures, including mobilizing additional emergency response forces and resources as needed.

Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei directed the Ministry of Economy and Finance to prepare essential food supplies and equipment for rescue operations. He instructed the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology to continuously monitor water levels and coordinate with relevant ministries, institutions, and provincial administrations to ensure timely and effective interventions.

The premier also urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, along with other relevant ministries, to prepare rice seeds and other necessary materials in case severe flooding damages crops, ensuring quick recovery assistance for affected farmers.

It is worth noting that, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, floods have so far affected crops in seven provinces: Kratie, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, Tbong Khmum, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap. The floods have impacted 12,008 hectares of rice, 449 hectares of mixed crops, and 822 hectares of industrial crops.
