Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that there are no winners or losers in the conclusion of the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam (CLV) partnership; rather, the nation itself is the true winner. He stressed that despite the conclusion of the CLV, development in the four northeastern provinces continues to progress unabated.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Sep. 26) during a graduation of 3,530 students of the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE) in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "The main goal of the CLV-DTA is as part of Cambodia's northeast development policy to allow remote provinces to grow faster to connect with the country. The government is still doing our best to develop our northeast."

According to Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, we must increase the ownership of development in the four provinces ourselves. From 2000 to 2024, under the DTA, the Royal Government used nearly USD 400 million to invest in the Common Development Framework, which includes the ADB, World Bank, Japan and the United States.

Samdech Thipadei also underlined that the Northeast province must ensure territorial integrity, sovereignty and promote development. At the same time, the work of erecting border posts and building a border ring road in the northeastern province continues even after the completion of the CLV-DTA.

Samdech Thipadei considers the end of CLV-DTA to be a move to remove swords and ammunition from the opposition groups abroad. However, despite the end of CLV-DTA cooperation, relations and cooperation between Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam continue to be normal.

Cambodia has announced the end of its participation in the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) from 20 September 2024. The conclusion aims to "remove weapons from the hands of extremists" so that they are no longer possible to incite the Cambodian people that Cambodia is ceding lands to neighbouring countries through this project.
