Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 26 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that withdrawing from the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA) would be akin to disarming opposition groups abroad that exploit the CLV-DTA issue to mislead the public.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Sep. 26) during a graduation of 3,530 students of the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE) in Phnom Penh.
"Some opposition groups living abroad are celebrating their supposed victory! However, they fail to realize that they are losing both their weapons and ammunition. In the past, they used the CLV to raise concerns among citizens, but now, citizens nationwide are united,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei noted that after the opposition has exhausted their ammunition, they are attempting to revive the CLMV cooperation project. The premier continued that whether or not the CLV-DTA exists is not as important as the commitment to continue developing the Northeast region. The focus should be on working on the border posts and the border ring road to improve the quality of life for the people.
It should be noted that the Royal Government announced its withdrawal from the CLV-DTA on 20 September 2024. This decision aimed to remove weapons from the hands of the extremists to prevent them from using the CLV-DTA to further deceive people.
