Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 24 – Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni called on Cambodian citizens nationwide to remain committed, uphold the principle and adhere to the Constitution.
The king addressed on Tuesday (Sep 24) during the inauguration of the Constitutional Monument.
"This glorious achievement of the Constitution has been realized. Therefore, I called on the entire Cambodian nation to remain committed with perseverance and uphold the spirit: ‘We, the Cambodian people, unite, preserve, protect, and adhere to the Constitution as the supreme law of the country—a symbol of modern values intertwined with our ancient heritage, and a promise for the glorious future of our nation," the King underscored.
His majesty also highlighted that the undeniable success of more than 30 years of implementing the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia has brought peace and national unity. This success stems from the win-win policy directly implemented and led by the exceptional leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate. His leadership has achieved great success in defending the nation, religion, and the monarchy, while “strengthening national unity, safeguarding Cambodia's territorial integrity, preserving our precious sovereignty, and protecting the civilization of Angkor to transform the nation into an ‘Island of Peace.’ This is grounded in liberal multi-party democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and fostering national development and prosperity."
The king further noted that this remarkable achievement of the Constitution is a national legacy, which is being actively preserved and advanced by Prime Minister Hun Manet, who continues to lead Cambodia toward becoming an even more civilized nation.
Given that the 1993 Constitution has endured and remained stable for more than three decades—a significant milestone in the history of Cambodia—it is fitting that a Constitutional Monument now exists. It will serve as a reminder to future generations of Khmer people of the patriotic elites who established and enforced this supreme law. May all continue to respect the ethics and laws of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
