Beijing (FN), Sep. 24 – Khuon Sudary, President of the Cambodia’s National Assembly, and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, signed a cooperation agreement to elevate parliamentary and bilateral cooperation to new height on Monday (Sep. 23) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The signing was made during an official and friendly visit by the high-level delegation of the National Assembly of Cambodia, led by National Assembly President Khuon Sudary, to China.
On the occasion, National Assembly President Khuon Sudary and her Chinese counterpart agreed that the exchange of friendly visits and cooperation between the two legislative bodies plays an important role in strengthening and deepening Cambodia-China relations.
The agreement outlines the promotion of cooperation and the exchange of experiences in legislation, oversight, and governance. It also encourages continued friendly exchanges between leaders, committees, friendship groups, deputies, and working institutions through various forms, including delegate exchanges. Furthermore, it actively promotes cooperation in legislative matters, digital sectors, and reciprocal visits between female and young member of parliaments.
The spirit of the agreement between the two parliaments reflects their shared commitment to promoting and advancing the vision of their respective governments in building a community of common destiny, with a focus on high quality and high standards. This cooperation aims to make a positive contribution to regional and global peace and stability.
In addition, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two National Assemblies was signed by Leng Peng Long, Secretary General of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and Qi Liu, Secretary General of the NPC Standing Committee.
The MoU was established to deepen the traditional friendly relations between China and Cambodia, strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership, and support legislative cooperation through various means, including exchanging experiences and collaboration. It also aims to provide services that support the effective execution of parliamentary duties, based on principles of equality, mutual benefit, respect, understanding, and compliance with the basic norms of international law.
