Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 18 – The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of China have reaffirmed their joint commitment to continuing bilateral cooperation in security, law enforcement, and anti-drug efforts.
Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun met Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin on Wednesday (Sep. 18).
During the meeting, Neth Savoeun welcomed the Chinese ambassador, and expressed confidence that the ambassador’s extensive diplomatic experience would further strengthen the Cambodian-Chinese relationship. He underlined the long-standing, traditional ties and deep, comprehensive cooperation between Cambodia and China, describing the two nations as "iron-clad friends."
Neth Savoeun spoke of the fruitful cooperation between Cambodia and China in the areas of security, economy, and trade. He also expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued cooperation and development assistance across various sectors, and acknowledged China’s significant contributions to Cambodia’s development thus far.
He also expressed his appreciation for China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in all areas with the Royal Government of Cambodia. He noted that with the ambassador’s expertise and capabilities, bilateral efforts would continue to succeed and flourish.
For his part, the Chinese ambassador reaffirmed China’s strong and enduring friendship with Cambodia. He pledged that the Chinese government, through its Embassy, would continue to support Cambodia in its aspirations to become a middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050, with the goal of improving the standard of living for its people.
The ambassador also underlined China’s commitment to supporting Cambodia's regional and international role, and its alignment with the "win-win policy" initiated by Samdech Techo Hun Sen. He underscored China’s intention to contribute actively to reducing conflicts and promoting peace in both the region and the world.
On the topic of national security, Wang Wenbin affirmed that the Chinese government, through its Embassy, would continue to collaborate with Cambodia in building capacity, providing training, and facilitating the exchange of information to enhance security and prevent cross-border violations of all kinds. He praised the strong cooperation between Cambodia’s National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) and its Chinese counterpart. He underscored that both institutions would continue to support one another.
