Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 17 – Sun Chanthol, the First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), and EU Ambassador to Cambodia, Igor Driesmans, led the Cambodia-EU Public-Private Dialogue on 17 September 2024.

The event was attended by representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, French Ambassador to Cambodia Jacques Pellet, the President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, representatives of the EU-ASEAN Business Council, the private sector, and various professional officials.

This dialogue is part of the Investment Retention Mechanism, initiated under the guidance of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and endorsed by EU leaders as an official platform for joint discussions between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the European Union. The primary objective is to address the challenges faced by European investors in Cambodia and boost confidence for other potential European investors considering Cambodia as an investment destination.

On that occasion, Sun Chanthol welcomed the participation of the EU ambassador, the French ambassador, representatives from ministries, institutions, and the private sector. He underlined that this first-ever Cambodia-EU dialogue reflects the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to regularly addressing the concerns of European investors through an official platform, with the intent of prioritising the resolution of investors’ challenges.

Sun Chanthol underlined Cambodia’s openness to investment from all countries and noted that, alongside facilitating and maintaining investment, the CDC continues to seek out potential investors, particularly from the European Union.

He added that the CDC is planning a second visit to the European Union following the success of the Cambodian delegation’s first visit in June 2024.

For his part, Igor Driesmans acknowledged the significance of the first public-private dialogue as a new opportunity for dialogue among all stakeholders, coordinated by the CDC and the EU, with the support of the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, to assess the challenges faced by investors.

Igor Driesmans expressed support for the CDC’s initiative to prepare for a second visit to the EU and reaffirmed the EU’s continued cooperation with Cambodia to enhance the country's development.
