Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 17 – Today, 17 September 2024, marks the first anniversary of Koh Ker Temples' inclusion on the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List. On this day in 2023, during the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Koh Ker was officially inscribed as a World Heritage site.
Located in Srayang Commune, Kulen District, Preah Vihear province, approximately 100 kilometres from Siem Reap, Koh Ker served as Cambodia’s capital during the reign of King Jayavarman IV in the 10th century AD, from 928 to 941 AD.
The recognition of Koh Ker Temple as a World Heritage site is a source of immense pride for Cambodia. This milestone not only honours the temple's historical significance but also elevates it to an international platform alongside other renowned Cambodian heritage sites such as Angkor (listed in 1992), Preah Vihear Temple (listed in 2008), and Sambor Prei Kuk Temple (listed in 2017).
