Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet acknowledged that while many doctors work hard to treat millions of patients annually, the actions of a small number of doctors can negatively impact the reputation of the entire medical community. He noted the need to focus on improving the quality of doctors to enhance public confidence in the healthcare sector.
The premier spoke on Monday (Sep. 16) during a groundbreaking ceremony of Calmette Hospital's new buildings.
“While there are some issues, we should also recognize the positive contributions made by our doctors, who treat millions of patients every year,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei continued, “However, we must work to strengthen the quality of medical practice. One doctor's actions can represent the entire profession. If there’s a problem at any clinic, it affects the reputation of all doctors. Therefore, we need to improve their capacity and ensure high-quality care for the people, which is our responsibility.”
On the occasion, the premier added that the training of doctors should be regular and prioritize quality over quantity, to build trust and, most importantly, to protect the lives and health of the population. He also stressed that the health of the people is vital for supporting all sectors of the national economy.
