Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed relevant authorities, communities, and administrations across the capital and provinces to prioritise the health of the population, especially on diabetes prevention.

The premier spoke on Monday (Sep. 16) during a groundbreaking ceremony of Calmette Hospital's new buildings.

The premier underscored, "Therefore, it is essential that all administrative communities, including the capital and provinces, actively participate in this effort. This is crucial for the long-term health of our people. The children aged 8 to 10 today will become the future workforce, and it is vital to ensure that they do not develop diabetes or other diseases that could become a burden in the future."

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined the critical importance of prevention, citing a sharp increase in diabetes cases linked to nutrition in many developing countries, especially due to the frequent consumption of sweets from an early age.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei added that some individuals begin developing diabetes in their 30s, even if they do not consume alcohol, as this condition can result from poor nutrition in childhood, including diets high in sugar and fat.
