Phnom Penh (FN), Sep 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet voiced his expectation for increased investment in Phnom Penh's parking infrastructure, noting the daily rise in the number of cars.

The premier spoke on Monday (Sep. 16) during a groundbreaking ceremony of Calmette Hospital's new buildings.

"I believe that in the future, Phnom Penh will have multi-storey parking buildings due to limited land, including some underground parking near Vattanac," said Premier Hun Manet. "With investment in parking infrastructure, we may not need to limit the number of cars people own."

The premier also highlighted that the new building planned for Calmette Hospital has taken parking into careful consideration, with space for approximately 500 cars, as reported by Health Minister Chheang Ra.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that Calmette Hospital once had only small buildings, but now high-rise structures have been added to meet the growing demand for healthcare services.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, from 1990 to December 2023, a total of 7,563,395 vehicles were registered, including 1,335 electric vehicles (EVs). In the first six months of 2024 alone, 200,824 vehicles were registered nationwide, comprising 170,746 motorcycles, 26,380 light vehicles, and 3,698 heavy vehicles.
