Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that approximately 400,000 citizens have so far contributed to the “Border Infrastructure Fund”, raising approximately USD 19 million.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Sep. 5) during a certificate presentation ceremony for nearly 2,000 law students and trainees at OCIC in Phnom Penh.
"To date, we have received over USD 19 million in donations to the fund. The key question now is, how will the funds be allocated? Ensuring transparency and clear objective is crucial. We will set up a management and information committee to keep citizens informed,” the premier underlined.
“We still have 1,300 kilometres of border infrastructure to complete, which has been pending for more than 10 years and will require over USD 200 million. The fund will be used to assist with construction efforts, and citizens will have the opportunity to see the work for themselves. How much is being spent? Where is the construction taking place? There will be no ambiguity,” the premier added.
Samdech Thipadei continued, “We will clearly define the scope— from where to where, which pillars are involved, and how far the road extends. The budget will be laid out transparently, and anyone can verify it. I want to emphasize that transparency and targeted use of the budget are vital for the construction of this border ring road. Rest assured; we will take every step to ensure this.”
It is worth noting that Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet initiated the "Border Infrastructure Fund" to raise additional funds for border infrastructure projects. This initiative provides an opportunity for all Cambodians to contribute to national defence and development. Both the local and international communities have actively supported the Royal Government in this effort, reflecting a spirit of national unity aimed at maintaining peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while promoting sustainable development in border areas.
