Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government will establish a committee to prepare a clear and accurate construction budget and update the cost details.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Sep. 5) during a certificate presentation ceremony for nearly 2,000 law students and trainees at OCIC in Phnom Penh.
So far, the border infrastructure fund has received a total budget of approximately USD 19 million. A management committee will be established to ensure transparency and fair use of the budget.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated, "As of now, our fund holds over USD 19 million. The key question is how we manage it. Ensuring transparency and achieving our goals is a crucial task. We will establish a management committee and make a public announcement to our citizens nationwide."
Samdech Thipadei stated that the committee will keep the public informed about the projects being carried out, and people will have the opportunity to verify for themselves whether the work has been done and to what extent it has been completed.
In addition, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that the Royal Government is committed to ensuring transparency and fair use of the budget for the border ring road, and this process will be carried out step by step.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also outlined the key tasks the Royal Government must undertake to protect the nation’s territorial integrity, which include completing the border demarcation posts with neighbouring countries, developing the border areas, promoting population growth, and connecting infrastructure.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his gratitude to the king and the compatriots who have contributed to the fund for the construction of infrastructure along the border ring road.
The border ring road is approximately 1,300 kilometres long. In late July, Samdech Thipadei signed a 10-year plan to complete the road with a budget of over USD 200 million.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that about 400,000 people have so far contributed to the fund. He also urged the continued contribution.
It should be noted that in a statement highlighting the one-year achievements of the seventh-mandate Royal Government on 22 August 2024, Samdech Thipadei announced the initiative to establish an infrastructure fund along the Cambodian border to encourage direct public participation.
The Border Infrastructure Fund, which is a direct initiative of the prime minister, now serves two purposes, to raise additional funds and to provide opportunities for people to participate directly with the Royal Government.
