Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 2 – As of the end of July 2024, the construction project of Techo International Airport has reached over 80% completion, with a total investment of approximately USD 1.2 billion. The project is on schedule to be completed by the end of 2024, Sin Chansery Vutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, told Fresh News on Monday (Sep. 2).

Vutha added that, barring any unforeseen delays, the Techo International Airport will be officially inaugurated in mid-2025, with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet presiding over the ceremony.

Please note that the Techo International Airport project has been authorized by the Royal Government of Cambodia and entrusted to Cambodia Airport Investment Company (CAIC). This joint venture between the Royal Government and the OCIC Group is responsible for the construction and development of the new Phnom Penh International Airport. The project covers a vast area of 2,600 hectares, situated 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh, spanning across Kandal and Takeo provinces.

Techo International Airport, classified as a 4F airport, is designed to accommodate long-haul transcontinental flights and large aircraft, including the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800. Currently, the project employs approximately 15,400 workers, 90% of whom are Khmer.

Additionally, Vutha reported that in the first seven months of 2024, the three airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville handled over 30,000 flights (round-trip), an increase of about 13% compared to the same period in 2023. During the period, these airports also accommodated more than three million passengers (round-trip), reflecting a 20% increase, and facilitated the entry and exit of goods totalling more than 42 million kilograms (round-trip), marking a 44% increase.
