Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 28 – The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Cambodia Office held a pre-departure orientation for 35 Cambodian government officials from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on 27 August 2024.
The orientation was organized under KOICA's Fellowship Program (CIAT), which supports the MoH in "Capacity Building for Training of Trainers on Advanced Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in Cambodia" and the MEF in "Capacity Building on Public Procurement in Cambodia."
The pre-departure orientation aimed to equip government officials with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate cultural differences and academic expectations during their training in South Korea. By providing insights into Korean culture, intercultural communication strategies, and educational guidelines, KOICA sought to ensure a successful and enriching experience for each participant.
KOICA's fellowship program is a leading human resources development (HRD) initiative that invites public officials, engineers, researchers, and policymakers from developing countries to participate in capacity-strengthening training programs. Through the program, KOICA shares Korea's development experience and technology to support partner countries' HRD efforts.
In 2024, over 140 Cambodian government officials were selected to participate in KOICA's fellowship programs. Upon completion of their training, the 15 officers from the MoH are expected to enhance their expertise in IPC training, while the 20 officers from the MEF will strengthen their knowledge in public procurement.
The selected officials expressed their gratitude to KOICA and the Korean government and pledged to apply their acquired knowledge to contribute to Cambodia's development.
Since 1994, KOICA's fellowship program has supported over 3,773 Cambodian government officials through various schemes, including Country Training, Global Training, and Scholarship programs. KOICA remains committed to supporting Cambodia's human resources development through targeted programs.
