Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 28 – The Governor of Kampot province Mao Thonin, confirmed plans to build another new bridge during a recent meeting, citing the growing number of visitors coming to Kampot, which is causing greater congestion at the base of the newer Kampot Prek Bridge.

While the old bridge (Rainbow Bridge), can no longer support cars, only pedestrians and motorcycles, making the newer bridge busy leading to congestion, especially during the weekend, and public holidays.

The provincial governor confirmed that “in order to reduce congestion on the new bridge and in Kampot city, the provincial administration has decided to build another bridge across Prek Kampot or Prek Kampong Bay soon.”

The new bridge will be built in architectural style to create an iconic landmark in the province to attract national and international tourists.

With infrastructure development plans throughout Kampot City and the province, the provincial administration recently started construction of a 35-metre-tall clock, scheduled for completion by the end of the year creating another tourist attraction.
