Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 24 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged parents and guardians to work with teachers in fostering a positive attitude in their children.

The premier spoke on Saturday morning (Aug. 24) during his informal school inspection in Udong Mechey, Kampong Speu Province.

Prime Minister Hun Manet told parents to support the school and the teachers, and cooperate in the education of their children.

He continued, “This responsibility can only be fulfilled by both parties—parents, grandparents, and guardians at home, and teachers at school. But if parents do not collaborate well with the teachers, students may end up spending too much time hanging out, and when parents protect their children excessively, teachers may feel hesitant to discipline them."

Samdech Thipadei underlined that a closer relationship between parents, guardians, and teachers would enhance the quality of education, as mutual understanding between them is crucial. Such collaboration would help avoid any misunderstandings that may arise between parents and teachers.

The premier further noted that today’s teachers no longer use corporal punishment to discipline students but instead strive to educate them through gestures and soft words, helping them understand the value of education. Therefore, it is vital for teachers, parents, and guardians to trust and support each other in raising well-rounded individuals.

Additionally, the prime minister highlighted the importance of instilling discipline in students from a young age, as it lays the foundation for greater achievements later in life.

Samdech Thipadei pointed out that a two-hour behavioral program is currently being implemented in some schools in Cambodia. Although it may seem minor compared to general education, this small program will significantly contribute to the development of students' character and behavior.

Samdech Thipadei stated that the collaborative spirit in teaching and educating students is vital. He pointed out that while academic success is important, having a good attitude and showing respect for parents, teachers, and elders are the most essential qualities. He also recalled that during his time studying in the United States, schools there provided education on both behavior and ethics.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the importance of instilling discipline in students from a young age, as this foundation can lead to greater accomplishments later in life. He urged everyone to work together to address small issues comprehensively.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also called on all teachers to focus on teaching students good manners and ethics, ensuring that they grow into respectful and responsible individuals.
