Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced adjustments to the opening and closing hours of certain temples, with Angkor Wat now opening at 5 a.m. and closing at 6 p.m. The schedule will be adjusted according to the seasons.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Aug. 22) on the occasion of the 1st Anniversary of the Royal Government of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet announced, "To support and facilitate tour guides, I have decided to extend the validity of tour guide licenses from 2 years to 3 years. Additionally, I have instructed the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to explore the possibility of extending visiting hours at certain temples, like Angkor Wat, to allow tourists to experience sunset, sunrise, and early morning views."
In this regard, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phoeurng Sackona outlined the following principles as follows:
- Angkor Wat currently opens at 5 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m. Existing guests can remain until 6:30 p.m.
- Temples such as Phnom Bakheng and Phnom Krom, popular for sunset views, open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
- Other temples open at 7 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m., allowing visitors to exit gradually as darkness falls, ensuring safety and security.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added, "These opening and closing times may be adjusted according to the season, based on daylight hours: from November to May and from June to October, to ensure the safety of both temples and visitors."
