Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a policy to organise free weekend visit for people to the four northeastern provinces (Kratie, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, and Ratanakkiri) from September to December 2024. These programs aim to allow people to visit these provinces and witness firsthand the conditions along the border roads, the development of Cambodia’s borders, and the progress of the local communities.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Aug. 22) on the occasion of the 1st Anniversary of the Royal Government of the 7th Legislature of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
To address concerns about the Royal Government's involvement in the Development Triangle Area (DTA) cooperation, Samdech Thipadei added that this initiative particularly targets young people, encouraging them to explore these provinces, see the realities along the border, and understand the development efforts in these areas.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that in the past, many people expressed a desire to visit the northeastern provinces but lacked the financial means. In response, the Royal Government has now organised these visits, offering free transportation, vehicles, and food every weekend from September to December 2024.
Additionally, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet instructed Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra to take charge of preparing and submitting the details for registration and the schedule to implement this initiative.
The premier added that the Government is committed to promoting development in these areas, including granting economic land concessions to those who do not yet have land, and helping them establish villages and communes to further develop the four provinces, particularly the border regions. The Royal Government has also devised policies to boost development in these areas, increase the population, and enhance infrastructure connectivity so that Cambodians can actively participate in protecting the territory.
In addition to this travel initiative, Prime Minister Hun Manet has also tasked Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth with preparing an incentive package to promote investment in the northeastern region. This policy is intended to encourage all investors, particularly local ones, to contribute to the development of this region.
These policies and actions demonstrate the Royal Government’s commitment to safeguarding Cambodia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, not only in the four provinces but throughout the country.
