Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude to the governments of various countries and stakeholders for their cooperation, coordination, and support in the legal and technical aspects of preventing and returning Khmer cultural heritage. This has led to the great achievement of returning these artifacts.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Aug. 22) at the “Celebration of Returned Khmer Artifacts to Cambodia” in Phnom Penh.
On behalf of the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei extended his appreciation, particularly to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, led by Minister Phoeurng Sackona, for their leadership in protecting and preserving Khmer culture.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "I would like to thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cambodian Embassies abroad, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Interior, and other relevant institutions for their cooperation and support in this challenging work. I also wish to thank Canadia Bank and its stakeholders for their financial support of this important mission."
The premier continued, "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the governments and stakeholders who have contributed to this significant achievement. I extend special thanks to the Government of the United States, including the Department of State, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the US Embassy in Cambodia for their close cooperation, coordination, and support in the legal and technical aspects of preventing and returning Khmer cultural heritage."
In addition, Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked and commended the Royal Government of the United Kingdom, its relevant authorities, and the British Embassy in Cambodia for their recent cooperation in facilitating the return of Khmer statues and jewellery. Another 76 items are expected to be sent to Cambodia in the near future.
