Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 22 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on museums, institutions, and curators of Khmer artifacts to continue voluntarily returning them, speaking on Thursday (Aug. 22) at the “Celebration of Returned Khmer Artifacts to Cambodia” in Phnom Penh.
The Royal Government of Cambodia views the return of Khmer artifacts to their rightful owner as a noble and respectful gesture. This action not only demonstrates ethical responsibility in preserving and honouring the cultural heritage of a nation but also makes a significant contribution to the protection of the cultural heritage of humanity.
Samdech Thipadei underscored, "I would like to call on museums, institutions, and curators of Khmer artifacts to continue voluntarily returning these items to Cambodia. The Royal Government of Cambodia considers the return of Cambodian artifacts to their original owner a noble and respectful gesture that not only reflects the ethics of contributing to a nation’s culture but also greatly contributes to the protection of human heritage."
Please be informed that the circulation and trade of artifacts are global issues that affect many countries. These activities are often carried out systematically and on a large scale, involving complex networks that falsify the history and origin of cultural property to smuggle them across borders. Effective prevention can only be achieved through coordinated efforts at both the national and international levels.
