Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 22 – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi described Cambodia as a model for linking peace and development.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on 21 August 2024 at the Peace Palace.
Retno Marsudi praised Cambodia's development and progress, attributing it to the nation's peace. She noted that starting a war is easy, but once a conflict begins, it is uncertain when it will end, as seen in some countries.
She also briefed Samdech Thipadei on the successful outcomes of the 5th Meeting of the Cambodia-Indonesia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) held on 20-21 August 2024.
For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the importance of peace as a fundamental basis for development. He added that the Royal Government has worked diligently to maintain peace and avoid repeating past mistakes.
On the occasion, the premier thanked Indonesia for its contribution to the peace process in Cambodia during the late 1980s and early 1990s and praised the successful outcomes of the 5th JCBC Meeting.
This year marks the 65th anniversary of Cambodia-Indonesia diplomatic relations. Both sides lauded the cooperation and expressed their commitment to expanding it in areas such as the economy and trade, agriculture, tourism, people-to-people ties, as well as national defence and security.
