Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 15 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inquire with the Japanese government about protesters using Japanese territory to plan to overthrow the legitimate Royal Government of Cambodia.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Aug. 15) during a meeting with Buddhist priests at the National Institute of Education.

"I support the expression of opinions and do not prohibit it, but such expression must have limits. Initiatives that create instability, division, or conflict within the country cannot be tolerated. The government has no choice but to enforce the law as strictly as they do in Britain," the premier added.

Samdech Thipadei noted that the government should educate Cambodian protesters working in Japan about the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA), given Japan’s longstanding support for this project. In 2006, Japan provided USD 20 million to assist in the development of the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam development triangle, and a better understanding of this initiative is necessary.

On the occasion, the premier expressed deep concern over potential national division. Samdech Thipadei assured that the Royal Government would meet citizens' demands, including sovereignty, territorial protection, development in the Northeast and across the nation, as well as maintaining peace and stability to support the Cambodian economy.
