Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 15 – Regarding the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA), Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet noted through social media that there have been two different reactions from the public: some support the initiative, while others have called for its withdrawal. This division, he observed, has led to suspicions among Cambodians, raising concerns about potential division or violence.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Aug. 15) during a meeting with Buddhist priests at the National Institute of Education.
At this point, Samdech Thipadei underlined that confrontation is not the solution; instead, dialogue to reach a consensus is the best approach.
Samdech Thipadei added that Cambodia's history has already demonstrated that internal conflicts among Cambodians have been a primary cause of the loss of territory and national sovereignty. He underlined that only through unity can the nation defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored, "Concerns about our territory are the duty and right of every citizen. However, the important thing is to preserve national unity. The expression of views must be within a framework that does not lead to violence or division. Acts of violence have caused divisions and escalated into more violence, as seen in countries like Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, where violence led to retaliation."
"What should we do together to address this issue? To prevent our concerns from becoming reality, we must work together to maintain and develop our territorial sovereignty, ensuring prosperity for our people, especially in the Northeast. By doing so, we can transform our worries into strength, reinforcing our national unity,” added Samdech Thipadei.
On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the territory and national sovereignty in the four northeastern provinces and to continuing efforts to promote development for the next generation of Cambodians.
