Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 12 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen outlined that if citizens are concerned about the future of the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA), they should jointly safeguard and deploy resources to protect the border area.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen asserted that using people to protect the border is more effective than building a fence, as people provide stronger protection than concrete barriers, speaking in a special voice message on Monday (Aug. 12).

"National defence relies on people rather than multi-storey concrete fences. The Royal Government is focusing on infrastructure development, including roads, homes, hospitals, schools, and other essential facilities, to support communities in these areas. This allows people to live, farm, and engage in local industries," the Senate president underscored.

In the voice message, Samdech Techo added that if Cambodia had the funds for border fences, it would instead invest in building roads, schools, hospitals, and housing along the border. This approach would enhance cooperation and export opportunities with Viet Nam, Laos, and Thailand.

Senate president also noted that Cambodia aims to transform the border into an area of development, peace, friendship, and cooperation, rather than a battleground as it was in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, when war impeded agricultural activities along the borders.
