Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 12 – Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen clarified that Cambodia’s four provinces will not be ceded to Viet Nam and Laos through Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA).
Samdech Techo underlined that the cooperation among the three countries should not be confused with joint development or a joint venture, speaking in the special voice message on Monday (Aug. 12).
" We do not subject our four provinces to joint development, and no country does that. Instead, we engage in cooperation. We develop our provinces using our own budget, foreign aid, and secured loans. Viet Nam and Laos follow the same approach, seeking assistance and loans from other countries. There is no shared development in this area," underscored Samdech Techo.
Samdech Techo added, "Some citizens have called for the withdrawal of these four provinces from what they perceive as joint development cooperation. However, I must clarify that there is no joint development, only cooperation. If we have cooperation, must we deploy armed forces every day between Cambodia and Viet Nam, or between Cambodia and Laos? We must maintain good neighbourliness, complete the remaining 16 percent of border posts, and focus on developing our own territory so that our citizens can safeguard the land and property along the border."
