Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 8 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that Cambodia could not become a rich country if its human resources did not possess the necessary knowledge and skills, could not compete on the international stage, and were not healthy.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Aug. 8) during the opening of De Montfort University Cambodia in Phnom Penh.

"We cannot become a rich country if our human resources do not have the knowledge and skills, cannot compete in the international arena, are not healthy enough, and are unable to utilise their knowledge to participate in building the infrastructure of society, economy, and industry,” Samdech Thipadei underscored.

Samdech Thipadei added, "People are the core of our policy, and therefore the education and training of human capital is a long-term investment strategy of the Royal Government to establish a socio-economic and industrial base that focuses on skills and knowledge, and to ensure that Cambodia does not fall into middle-income trap in our long journey towards becoming a high-income country by 2050.”

In addition, the premier also encouraged the university to cooperate with relevant Cambodian institutions to receive various support related to entrepreneurship, thereby participating in creating real jobs in the country.

Samdech Thipadei expressed his desire to see De Montfort University become a hub and a magnet for investment from the United Kingdom, helping to bridge the gap between human resources and future leaders. He urged the university to strive to train with UK market players, investors, and future industries.
