Kandal (FN), Aug. 5 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted that the groundbreaking ceremony of the Funan Techo Canal on 5 August 2024 reflected the Royal Government’s capacity and full authority to construct the canal for the benefit of the nation.
The premier spoke on Monday (Aug. 5) during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Funan Techo Canal.
On that occasion, Samdech Thipadei also thanked Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, as well as all relevant authorities for jointly organizing the groundbreaking ceremony for the Funan Canal project.
The premier mentioned that this preparation demonstrated the government's commitment as the Royal Government had initially planned for this project to commence in late 2024 or early 2025, but it started four months ahead of schedule.
"Not just for the sake of appearances, but we also commenced before the planned date, as we have the capacity and authority to build. This is the commitment of the Royal Government to a historic project. With nationwide support, we must carry out this project to the best of our abilities for the sake of our nation," the premier underscored.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei dedicated this achievement to the ancestors and the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk. He added that the Funan Techo Canal project is not only a transport infrastructure project but also reflects the unity of the Khmer nation at all levels in this modern era.
