Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 31 – Cambodia and Laos have significantly strengthened their military cooperation.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Khamlieng Outhakaysone, Lao Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army, on Wednesday morning (Jul. 31) at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, Khamlieng Outhakaysone informed Samdech Thipadei that his visit aimed to strengthen and expand military cooperation between Cambodia and Laos.
The Lao deputy minister highlighted the main outcomes of the visit as follows:
1. Enhanced security cooperation along the border, including combating drug trafficking, transnational crime, and improving disaster relief.
2. Increased exchange of trainees and training of human resources.
3. Mutual support within regional and international frameworks.
On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his satisfaction with the excellent results of the military cooperation between Cambodia and Laos. He praised the progress and closeness of their military relations and supported further strengthening and expanding of this cooperation. He highlighted the importance of senior officers' exchange visits and joint training exercises for disaster relief, combating transnational crime, and drug trafficking.
The premier also encouraged the armies of both countries to maintain friendship, solidarity, and cooperation in the border provinces. He urged them to explore new activities for exchanging experiences, which would further strengthen and expand Cambodia-Laos relations and cooperation in all fields.
