Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 31 – Cambodia and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) identified several potential sectors for enhancing cooperation to boost business and economic growth.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call by Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) John KC Lee on Wednesday (Jul. 31) at the Peace Palace.
Taking this occasion, John Lee informed Samdech Thipadei that the purpose of his visit was to strengthen and expand the relationship between the HKSAR and Cambodia, particularly in the fields of business, investment, and people-to-people ties.
John Lee confirmed that representatives of major Hong Kong companies were also present. He thanked the Royal Government for assisting Hong Kong investors and businessmen.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei expressed his satisfaction with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between various agencies of the HKSAR and the Council for the Development of Cambodia. The premier noted that this would further establish investment and business promotion mechanisms and contribute to strengthening the strong relations between Cambodia and China. Samdech Thipadei praised Hong Kong investors for their investments in the kingdom.
Both sides also discussed the need to further strengthen and broaden relations and cooperation between Cambodia and the HKSAR in multiple potential areas such as trade and investment, finance and banking, technology and the digital economy, tourism, education, and people-to-people ties. They also reviewed the possibility of increasing direct flights from Hong Kong to Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Furthermore, the premier highlighted the policies and mechanisms of the Royal Government to create and enhance a favourable environment to encourage investment in Cambodia.
Both sides also witnessed the exchange of two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs):
1. MoU on Cooperation between InvestHK of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and the Council for the Development of Cambodia.
2. MoU between the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Council for the Development of Cambodia.
