Kampong Chhnang (FN), Jul. 27 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet advised the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports to promote reading and math assessments for grades 4 to 6.
The premier spoke on Saturday morning (Jul. 27) during his meeting with primary school teachers in Kampong Chhnang province.
"I have discussed with [Minister] Hang Chuon Naron the need to promote grades 4 to 6. Currently, we only have standardized curricula for grades 1 to 3, which is insufficient for a consistent educational standard across schools. The Ministry will take more time to implement a comprehensive program and ensure it is adopted nationwide,” the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei continued, "We need to strengthen all levels so that all public schools have the same standards, and students must have knowledge, ethics, and virtues. Therefore, it is necessary to apply general knowledge better and to have a proper attitude, respect for elders, and so on.”
On this occasion, Samdech Thipadei instructed the setup of computers for students to study and introduced the inclusion of social and volunteer work for young students.
Samdech Thipadei continued, "They need to learn general knowledge and skills. I asked the children if they know how to fold clothes, cross the road, respect elders, and practice good hygiene—important life skills that we need to include. We have also included dancing and sports, and we offer these life skills for two hours. In the past, we only had half-day classes, and students would take a break. We can add an extra hour for math, Khmer literature, and computer studies."
