Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 23 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on the Royal Government to address those who distort the cooperation within the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA). For those living abroad, a comprehensive family history should be compiled.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 23) in a special message on the CLV-DTA.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined that the CLV-DTA cooperation is solely economic and social, aimed at reducing poverty. He dismissed the slanderous claims about this cooperation being part of an Indochina Federation as absurd.
Samdech Techo underscored, "I call on the Royal Government to investigate and collect information on all groups spreading these false stories. Those residing in the country should be held accountable, and cases should be filed against expatriates, including compiling their family histories to facilitate management."
Samdech Techo Hun Sen's statement came after ill-intended groups falsely claimed that Cambodia had ceded four provinces to Vietnam. He considers these manipulations as part of a foreign agenda and warned that those involved would face legal consequences, noting that three individuals have already been arrested.
In the special message, Samdech Techo also urged foreign allies to understand Cambodia's situation and not contribute to its destabilisation. He stated that just as other countries enforce their laws, Cambodia has the right to enforce its own laws.
Samdech Techo confirmed, "I respect human rights, but your [foreign] country does not tolerate any wrongdoing. Provocation of this nature must be taken seriously, and I call on the government not to underestimate the incitement being carried out."
The CLV-DTA cooperation of the provinces bordering CLV focuses on economic development between these provinces. At the end of 2024, Cambodia will host the CLV Summit.
The CLV Development Triangle Area, established in 1999 by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, aims to transform the border area into a development zone fostering peace and prosperity among Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos. It includes 13 provinces: Viet Nam's Kontum, Galilee, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Binh Phuoc; Laos's Attapeu, Salavan, Sekong, and Champasak; and Cambodia's Rattanakiri, Mondulkiri, Kratie, and Stung Treng. This region, rich in natural resources and biodiversity, is crucial for connecting the area to a dynamic economic centre, attracting investment, and supporting production networks in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
