Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 19 – First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) Sun Chanthol, representing Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, officially inaugurated the "Xi Jinping Boulevard" on the Third Ring Road on Friday (Jul. 19). The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Public Works and Transport, Peng Ponea.
The Third Ring Road was renamed "Xi Jinping Boulevard" under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and former Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian on 28 May 2024 at the Peace Palace.
The naming of Xi Jinping Boulevard testifies the long-standing and progressive bilateral relationship between Cambodia and China. It signifies the highest level of attention and gratitude from the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, to be inscribed as a historical memorial and a great honour to Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with the Chinese government and people, who have always actively supported peace, stability, economic growth, the improvement of living standards for the Cambodian people, and the development of Cambodia.
Peng Ponea underlined that Xi Jinping Boulevard, spanning 47.10 km, serves as the main thoroughfare through Phnom Penh and Kandal Province. It stretches from 24+840 km on National Road No. 1 to 14+105 km on National Road No. 4.
This boulevard is integrated into the main provincial and national road network in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, connecting to ASEAN Highway 1 (AH-1), ASEAN Highway 11 (AH-11), the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway—the first expressway—and the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, which is currently under construction and planned for completion in the near future.
Xi Jinping Boulevard has significantly boosted the growth potential of various goods and facilitated the movement of people from one area to another without passing through Phnom Penh. This has reduced traffic congestion and saved time. It has also been transforming the area on both sides of the road into a logistics development zone, an industrial zone, a factory area, a warehouse area, and a development area for Borey and housing. These areas are becoming increasingly crowded and are experiencing more business activities, with further development expected in the future.
