Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 18 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet appealed to pagodas and the general public to beat the drum and make some noise to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the Funan Techo Canal, which will be held in the morning of 5 August 2024.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jul. 18) during a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of Samdech Pin Sem Museum in Siem Reap province.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Funan Techo canal project is a significant national movement for Cambodia. He stated that just as Khmer ancestors built a lasting legacy, the current generation must create new achievements for future generations, honouring our ancestors' legacy.

In the spirit of national unity, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also expressed gratitude to compatriots everywhere for their full support of the upcoming Funan Techo Canal project.

The Funan Techo Canal project aims to connect waterways between rivers to the sea of Cambodia, passing through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, and Kep provinces. It is about 180 kilometres long. The project is expected to cost about USD 1.7 billion and has been studied in detail.
