Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 11 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that under the umbrella of peace, political stability, and economic growth, the Royal Government of Cambodia has been paying close attention to developing sports to create better conditions for the general public.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jul. 11) during the opening of the 2nd Asian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei underscored, "Under the umbrella of peace, political stability, and economic growth, the Royal Government of Cambodia has been paying close attention to the development of sports to create better conditions for the general public to participate and to strengthen the ability of athletes to excel in competitions and win major sporting events."

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Manet underlined that the MMA competition, which is open to all kinds of martial arts, has seen participation from fighters specialising in jiu jitsu, judo, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, karate, and taekwondo. In this regard, the premier added Cambodia has had good opportunities to participate in many international mixed martial arts competitions, with athletes in Khmer boxing, Kun Lbokator, wrestling, karate, and judo.

Samdech Thipadei stated that Cambodia has a variety of traditional Khmer martial arts. He announced the organisation of traditional Khmer mixed martial arts competitions starting in October 2024. This program is widely open to traditional Khmer martial arts practitioners of all kinds and forms. Participants from everywhere, including the general public, civil servants, and the armed forces, both Khmer nationals and foreigners, can compete in this competition.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called on martial arts enthusiasts to apply to participate in the competition. Starting this year, Cambodia will organise Khmer traditional martial arts competitions every October.

At the same time, the 2nd Asian MMA Championship has received high support and attention from the Royal Government of Cambodia under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. The championship takes place at the National Olympic Stadium and lasts for 3 days, from 11-13 July 2024. The competition features a total of 204 sports delegates, including 101 athletes, 30 delegates, referees, 50 trainees, 23 coaches, and 3 trainers.
