Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 11 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet urged the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce Representative Office in Melbourne, Australia, to explore the kingdom’s business opportunities and invest in key sectors such as agriculture, agro-industry, renewable energy, digital, education, and health.
The premier received a courtesy call by Tan Sithy, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce Representative Office in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday morning (Jul. 11) at the Peace Palace.
Samdech Thipadei also called for collaboration with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to promote Cambodia-Australia business and trade opportunities.
During the meeting, Tan Sithy briefed Samdech Thipadei on the process of establishing a representative office of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce in Melbourne. This process was coordinated with the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Commerce, in accordance with the rules and regulations of Cambodia. He also discussed the election process of the leadership of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce in Melbourne and other action plans.
In addition, Sithy also informed the premier that the purpose of his visit and the delegation's visit was to explore the potential and opportunities for business and investment in the kingdom. He discussed the Royal Government's policy and strategy to attract investment and sought opportunities to promote and link investment between the private sectors of Cambodia and Australia, especially in food processing, agriculture, and other potential sectors.
For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed Tan Sithy and his delegation. Samdech Thipadei also congratulated Tan Sithy on his appointment as President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce Representative Office in Melbourne, Australia.
The premier mentioned that the establishment of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce Representative Office in Melbourne and in Sydney is a good step forward in linking government-to-government relations as well as business and commerce of the two countries to facilitate business and trade, and connect investors of the two countries.
Taking this occasion, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the Royal Government's policies to ensure a better business environment and Cambodia's competitiveness. This includes the implementation of investment laws and the introduction of flexible mechanisms to provide support, encouragement, and response to the demands of investors and the private sector in the kingdom. The premier underscored that the Royal Government values the role of the private sector as an important partner in contributing to further socioeconomic development.
In this regard, Samdech Thipadei outlined the Royal Government's vision to maintain economic growth, reduce poverty, and foster socioeconomic development to improve citizens' livelihoods. In addition, the premier noted that Cambodia has the potential to connect to regional and international markets through free trade agreements with many countries, including the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement, the Cambodia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, the ASEAN Framework, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), which present significant opportunities for Cambodia's investment.
Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to maintaining stability, safety, and security for investors in Cambodia. He also highlighted the importance of training skills that serve industries such as automotive, electronics, digital, and technology to respond to current and future job markets in line with global growth.
