Takeo (FN), Jul. 9 – Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the 29th Arbor Day celebration held at the Banteay Angkor Forest Extension and Restoration Station in Khnar village, Leay Bour Commune, Tram Kak district, Takeo province, on Tuesday morning (Jul. 9).

The ceremony was also attended by Cambodian Senate President and Chairman of the Supreme Privy Council of the King, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian President of the National Assembly Khuon Sudary, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, members of the Supreme Privy Council of the King, members of the Senate, National Assembly, Royal Government, leaders of Takeo provincial government officials, and Takeo residents.

Arbor Day has been celebrated since 1952 to help promote a positive environment and climate for the planet and humanity.

The 29th Arbor Day celebration took place at the Banteay Angkor Forest Extension and Restoration Station in Khnar village, Leay Bour Commune, Tram Kak district, Takeo province, adjacent to the Arbor Day plantation that the Cambodian King has nurtured since 2008.

For the Arbor Day Celebration, a total of 3,000 saplings will be planted on this 3-hectare site. Additionally, in 2024, the Forestry Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries completed the planting of 16,500 seedlings on another 10 hectares of land at the Sokrom Forest Extension and Restoration Station in Samrong commune, Phnom Kravanh district, Pursat province.

So far this year, Arbor Day has established a total of 475 hectares of day parks in 14 capitals and provinces, promoting a nationwide movement of forest and tree planting. More than 80,000 hectares of plantations and numerous public or private parks have been established in schools, pagodas, resorts, and private properties.

Moreover, the Forestry Administration has planted over 20.50 million seedlings through the national budget by 2024, with the capacity to plant 500,000 seedlings annually. Millions of other saplings have been planted privately by the people, excluding fruit trees or other industrial crops.
