Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 4 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that human capacity determines development of a nation, speaking on Thursday (Jul. 4) during a graduation ceremony at Phnom Penh Teacher Education College.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that in order for human resources to be capable, it is necessary to rely on education and training. The backbone of the education sector, focusing on the quality of teachers, is also a key factor in determining human resource capacity and national development.
"The quality of people is a determinant of a country's capacity to develop. As long as we have strong people, we will develop greatly. If people do not know how to use computers or speak English, how can they utilise technology? The determining factor of human resources is education and training [...] People determine everything. If we do not strengthen human resources, we cannot catch up with others," Samdech Thipadei underscored.
If the teachers are not strong, the graduates will not be good and strong, and the competition will be limited. All this shows that teachers and training institutions are an important factor.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that the Royal Government of Cambodia continues to pay attention to education reform. In this regard, he praised and appreciated the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports for setting out policies and programs for education reform to ensure the effectiveness and high quality of teacher training in Cambodia.
Prime Minister Hun Manet noted that during the war, the Royal Government's budget was primarily allocated to defence. However, following the war's end, funding for education was significantly increased. He highlighted that the national budget for education was 3.2 trillion Riels in 2020 and will rise to 3.7 trillion Riels by 2024.
